Cannes Film Festival
Cannes film festival is the greatest and the most beautiful film festival in the world. It is taken place in Cannes, France. Festival de Cannes was founded in 1946. Its purpose is to present new films of all genres from world over.
Every year Cannes film festival is opened for thousands of movie producers, actors and actresses, and film lovers.
This year Cannes film festival will take place a few days later than it was in 2011. This year it will be from May 16 to May 27. The competition between films, which are previewed, is the major event of the festival. The Golden Palm is the most wanted award for the beat picture. One of the British newspapers called Cannes festival “the most glamorous event on the festival calendar”. All the films presented on the festival are placed into one of the categories – in competition (20 films competing for the Golden Palm), Un Certain Regard (about 20 films from around the world, which present different cultures), out of competition (popular films that are screened, but not compete), special screening (films that are given a special screening), cinefondation (films and shorts presented by films schools, to discover new talents), short films (the 15 films that compete for Palme d'Or du court métrage), Cannes classics (rediscovered or restored films from the past).
Since 1946 Cannes film festival has been attracting more and more people from film industry. Last year American actor Robert De Niro was the president of the jury for the main competition. The main prize, the Golden Palm, won The Tree of Life, the American film, directed by Terrence Malick.
Cannes film festival is the festival where not only films are honored, but it’s a chance for popular people to show off their unique fashion style. The 64th Cannes film festival was rich in gorgeous actresses and popular women - Angelina Jolie in brown Atelier Versace dress, with her husband, Brad Pitt, Salma Hayek in a beautiful pale Gucci gown, Kirsten Dunst, Gwen Stefani, Uma Thurman. Penelope Cruz and Johnny Depp looked fabulous on the premiere of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" during the 64th Cannes Film Festival.
This year the president of the Jury will be the Italian film-maker, Nanni Moretti. 2012 Cannes film festival will be opened with Moonrise Kingdom, an American film. Marilyn Monroe was selected as the icon of this year festival, so the official posture of 2012 Cannes film festival will represent Monroe, to draw attention that 50 years had passed since the actress’ death.
