Oscar award. Oscar award winners
Oscar award is the very first award ceremony in the media. Oscar awards are also known as the Academy awards. It is one of the most famous and, probably, the oldest award in film industry. The first Oscar awards was to reward the best achievements of cinematography of 1927-1928.
The first ceremony was a small affair, it had only 270 guests. There are various awards in Hollywood, presented by the Academy, but the most prominent is “Academy award of Merit” or simply Oscar statuette. There are five main categories of Oscar awards – actors, writers, producers, directors and technicians. The Oscar statuette is a dream for any person from film industry. Since 1969 Oscar awards ceremony have been broadcasting all over the world (in about 200 countries).
Among actors and actresses, there are some Oscar winners, who have more than one or even two Oscar statuettes. Meryl Streep has 17 nominations and three Oscars, Al Pacino and Marlon Brando have 8 nominations, Jack Nicholson – 12 nominations and three Oscars.
The 84th Academy Awards ceremony was held on February 26, 2012 in the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California. The Oscar winners 2012 are – “Artist” in the category Best Picture, Meryl Streep (“The Iron Lady”) in the category Best Actress and Jean Dujardin (“The Artist”) in the Best Actor category. “The Artist” and “Hugo” won equal number of Oscar awards. “Rango” won Best Animated Feature at the 84th Oscar awards. The main hero, Rango was voiced by Johnny Depp.
Unfortunately, Oscar award winners are not obviously the greatest films. Many of the most deserving movies of all time were not even nominated for Oscar awards. Such film genres as westerns, science fiction, comedies and independent films are not represented in proportional numbers in the history of Oscar awards.
