Is that an Oscar on horizon?
Oscar 2012 nominations were just announced. This year is not an exception and there are, of course, some surprises. “The Artist” and “Hugo” take the lead over the nominations for the 84th Academy Awards ceremony.
“Hugo” is the film with 11 nominations, including in the prior categories of “Best Director” to Martin Scorsese and “Best Picture”. Meanwhile “The Artist”, a black-and-white silent movie, gained 10 nominations including “Best Picture”, “Best Actor”, and “Best Supporting Actress”. “Moneyball”, Bred Pitt’s personal work, and “War Horse” got six nominations and “The Descendants” gained five.
“Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” (the last nominee announced), “The Help”, “The Tree of Life” and “Midnight in Paris” are the other nominees of “Best Picture”.
“Best original song” category surprisingly contains only two nominations – “Man or Muppet” from “The Muppets” and “Real in Rio” from “Rio”.
In the “Best Actors” nominations are George Clooney, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt and Demian Bichir. One more surprise is with the nominees for “Best Actress” category, which comprised a nod for Rooney Mara (“The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo”). The other nominees are Meryl Streep, Viola Davis, Glenn Close and Michelle Williams.
The 2012 Academy Award will be taken place on February 26 at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre. By the way, the first ceremony was held in 1929. The most nominated film in the history is “Titanic” (1997). It took home 14 Oscars from its 17 nods. The youngest star who got Oscar was Adrien Brody in 2002. He was only 29 years and 343 days.
