Scientists have developed "Twitter-revolutions" method
Graduates of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have created algorithm of mobilization and coordination of actions of big groups of people through Twitter, other blogs and social networks by means of marketing.
Such technology can be used both for rescue operations and for the organization of actions during revolution. The American agency DARPA declared the competition the Network call in which participants should develop the best method for mobilization and coordination of public actions all over the territory of the USA. Managers of the competition have hidden ten red spheres the start of which should be fixed by the participants. The group of scientists directed by Alex Pentlanda from MIT has solved this problem during nine hours after launching of spheres.
The command from four people has run ahead other groups of participants who used less effective methods of gathering the information. The secret of their success was in that the researchers have gathered the army of volunteers in Twitter from different parts of the USA using the mechanism of "return" stimulation which is based on principles of network marketing and financial pyramids. Pentland and his colleagues have declared that they will spend all money, 40 thousand dollars, for compensation not only for those who have informed them about the location of the red sphere, but also for those who have been involved in the invitation of these people. Authors have estimated each sonde in 4 thousand dollars, the half from which receives the "pioneer", the fourth part - that person who has invited him/her to the network team, 500 dollars – for the participant of the group who have invited the person and so on.
So that the more people the person has invited, the more chances are to receive money. Similar strategy has allowed scientists to collect 845 "pyramids" from the voluntary followers whose number has made 4,5 thousand users. Some users didn't leave the pyramid and had involved other people in it. To sum up, the strategy of "return" stimulation allows to mobilize a considerable quantity previously uninterested users of social networks for the decision of the challenges which need mobilization and harmonious actions.
